International or national implementers—Who is better? Evidence from a framing experiment

Behavioral economics has shown that changing small features in framing a context or action may drastically change behavior. A key factor characterizing most development interventions is the salience of either local an international implementer. Using setup intervention conducted Indonesia, we show study population Acehnese exhibits higher levels support for project if participation actors highlighted. We find previous experience with respective actor pivotal. Qualitative evidence suggests internationals' perceived skills drive results, highlighting importance strengthened capacities positive experiences implementers. Overall, underlines benefits linking experiments to actual respondents generate insights into real world.
